Tours and Excursions to Green Line Villages from Protaras
The villages of the Green Line area in the East of Cyprus include Avgarou, Anchna, Dherynia and Vryssoules. Part of the Famagusta District, these villages are also known as Red Soil Villages, or Kokkinochoria. These sleepy villages have great personalities, where you will still see old men playing tavli outside the Kafenio, and the village church may be hundreds of years old. This is a mainly agricultural area, very flat and with the "Green Line" threading through the countryside splitting the Famagusta district into two. You can still see the evidence of communities ripped apart by the Turkish inversion of 1974.
